Impressive debut winner Dispatch will give a further insight into his autumn prospects when he contests the Thomas North Plate at Caulfield.

The Peter Snowden stable is taken with the toughness of the Commands colt who is an easing equal third favourite with TAB Sportsbet for Saturday’s 1100-metre event.

“He is a tough nut and that’s probably why he is one of the better ones,” Melbourne stable foreman Paul Snowden said.

“He’s got good ability, although I wouldn’t say he’s up there with the best, but he has a very good constitution and he can develop further this prep in the early two-year-old races the way he is going.”

Dispatch made his debut at Sandown on December 21 when he raced on the speed and led around the home turn to hold off Isle Of Dreams and win by a long neck.

Snowden said the race experience had improved Dispatch and he is hoping that from barrier five he can be ridden more patiently at Caulfield and be held up for a late run to help him develop more as a racehorse.

“He has drawn well and I just want to see him get a good smother early because that is what he needs,” Snowden said.

“I think if you go too far forward on him he’s going to become one-dimensional and be a horse who just jumps and puts himself up on the speed.

“He is a good type with a good racing brain and he will be better with cover.”

Elusive Quality filly Sweet Little Lies, trained by Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, is unraced but continues to firm in betting from $4.60 to $3 ahead of the Anthony Freedman-trained debutant Ockham’s Razor, by Any Suggestion, who has tightened from $4.40 to $4.
